Corporate Publicity ROCKS!

The corporate world seems to be black & white, boring old men, and secretaries who fornicate to get to the top of the ladder. Seems like a boring job for a 22 year old African-American woman right? Luckily, I see the positive of corporate life. Top level office, flexible hours, paid holidays, and the ability to have a company in the palm of your hands. The Publicist is one of the most important factors in running a major corporation. He/She has the ability to cover up and re-word any negative or positive factors that the public sees or hears. "Scandal" a newly running television show focuses upon publicity and politics, and a look into the lives of people who influence our current Government. I admire the creator and writers of "Scandal" because they give corporate and politics a shine that is clearly looked over and taken for granted!

Aflac Get Well Card, Who Cares!

Aflac Get Well Card, Who Cares!

When Ms. Olsen told us as a class to visit this the Aflac duck on Facebook initially I thought to myself who cares about this duck! It was not benefiting me however the only reason why I decided to check out the duck was because it was a class assignment and part of me was curious how many people wrote this duck a get well card.

So I log in to Facebook, search the Aflac and behold they ask me if I would like to write the duck a get well card. They give me the options to decorate the card, what kind of back round and items do I want. Last I type in my letter which said, 'Get well dude.'

Honestly it was kind of cool. Whoever came up with the idea of writing a letter to the Aflac duck is quite smart. The PR for this company was very unique and well thought out. So I have gotten over my 'who cares about the Aflac duck and looking at from a PR viewpoint this was excellent.

I am very excited about the Strategic Message Planner section we learned today in class. For my Media Entrepreneurship Class we have to develop a business. The business I am starting is a video production company that focuses on recording weddings, birthdays, commercials and music videos. So the Strategic Message Planner section has given me a clear vision who my target audience is and how to go by getting clients. The SMP will help me to define what is the message of my video production company and how I want to convey that message to my audience. Once again guys I am excited to develop this SMP plan.

The other day I was sitting on my bed reading my Bible I began to think about how much time I have left to spend with my colleagues. We meet for class Tuesday's and Thursday's for two hours a week. I totaled the remaining class time for the semester and got about twenty eight hours of class session left and said "C'MON Man". Twenty eight hours is short amount of time.

So I thought to myself how many of my classmates do I associate with from High School? Can't seem to count the number on my hand. So I told myself to cherish the time I have with my classmates. Lighten up and have fun. Develop relationships with individuals who are focusing in different areas of media because you never know who will end up where.

This goes to show that life is very short but long. God bless and have a great day. :)

Did I do this right will some one let me know if thay can see this
I want to thank the students who are participating in the blog assignment.  I encourage each and everyone of you to continue in this exercise and add your very own personality to your post.  I'm excited about this semester and what's to come.  I challenge you all to think outside the box and continue to be creative.  That last sentence was free!  Lol

Writing for PR

Mashawn Chamberlain

My  plan for attending Chicago State is getting into the communication department and becoming a sports broadcaster. One thing that I am learning is that PR is important no matter what form of communication you want to get in. You want to get your product or business or yourself out into the world through positive advertisements. Also in doing this, there are a lot of rules and steps you must follow to do this and become successful. So I find that this class is going to be very helpful for me in the long run

My first Public Relations class, AHHHH?

My first Public Relations class, AHHHH?

FEBRUARY 7, 2013 / 3:16 PM
POSTED BY YOMI M. ADEKAHUNSI
CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT

The time has finally come when I take my first public relations class. When I decided to focus my degree in Media Arts I wanted no part of Public Relations because the thought of writing and reading as a freshman was too much. However now that graduation is coming near there is no more running from Public Relations. She has trapped me.

The more I began to learn more about politics and media the more I began to become more aware of Public Relations. Public Relations controls what food we eat to what car we buy. It is the eyes how how an outsider looks at a company. I am very excited to soak in as much information as I can and to develop my skill of writing.

Sure, in PR Writing we are learning many forms of PR are executed to reach targeted consumers. Who knew a duck could be so valuable to consumers? Well Professor Olsen made sure we discover the Aflac Duck!

The brand Aflac's mascot duck is in the hospital and we were assigned to send him a get well card. Visiting getwellduck.com sent us to Aflac's Facebook page where anyone on Facebook could create a get well card. Now, we are all college students and an assignment is an assignment but many classmates felt the card was a bit childish. The value of this form of PR was what Olsen wanted us to understand. Concentrating on Aflac's creativity effort is what I took into account.

I created my card and noticed it went to my Facebook wall. Therefore my +1,000 friends could see what I posted about Aflac's duck. When will the duck be released from the hospital and this PR campaign end? I'm not sure, but stay posted for updates and more interesting story's of PR in social media.

Writing for Writing for PR

Hey peers, how’s everything going for you?

Cooltimes.

I am very interested in this class, and the communication skills I will gain from it. I enjoy writing a good deal, but often find that I do not know my audience as well as I should, or do not represent exactly what the message is when explaining it to others, that’s why this class is so interesting to me, and why I am excited to be a part of it.

Already I am expanding why horizons, as blogging online is a totally new endeavor for me; but I am confident it’ll end up being pretty cool. Hopefully you are as enthused as I am, because I would like to take full advantage of the blog format and invite any comments or suggestions you might have to better improve future blog posts.

Thanks for reading,

Jack Banks

Public Relations is literally all around me. Since taking this course I pay more attention to commercials, media outlets, and social networking sites. I no longer look at these outlets as a consumer but now as a public relations professional.

In recent events, singer Beyoncé has been receiving slack for lip syncing at President Obama's Inauguration. Beyoncé addressed these issues by singing The National Anthem at her Superbowl press conference. It was a brilliant PR move that worked. It didn't just end there. During her Superbowl performance Queen B brought her former group mates Kelly and Michelle to the stage with her. The message was clear the long awaited Destiny's Child reunion may be sooner than we think. To top it all off after her electrifying performance at the Superbowl Beyoncé released the dates to her upcoming Mrs. Carter Tour. Say what you want to about Beyoncé, but it is more than clear she has the Dream Team of PR reps in her camp.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm about to go get my life and watch Sasha Fierce slay the stage at what was by far one of the best Superbowl performances.

First Impressions of Class- Leslie

Like previously stated in my last post, I love to write. Or maybe should I say blog... Writing is a form of expression which allows me to talk a lot.. Sometimes for no reason lol. My first impression of the class was "okay this should be fun... PR... Writing... Learning new techniques/styles... This sounds like something that I should enjoy." The class has been in session for almost four weeks, and I can honestly say it has been interesting. From learning about several PR tactics (Superbowl 2013, University administration, and popular Artists-Beyonce) to having the privilege of having a class blog; this class is set to be interesting and fun!

Writing For PR- Leslie Jones

Writing For PR Post 1

Writing is a favorite past time that I have actively enjoyed since the age of maybe... eight years old! I've always loved to write about anything. Life, music, TV, family, trees and nature lol... I was just the type to get a journal and write for hours. Over the years, I've learned that my passion for writing was informal, yet educational, interesting, and easy to follow. Writing For Public Relations has allowed me to do so within the first weeks of class. This course has allowed me to take my passion and shape it to what I wanted. For example, the first assignment which was blogging.

First Impressions of Class

I am excited about this class because we will be learning about how to write for PR. So far, I like the class. I like it when we discuss the different types of PR that is happening all around the world. It is really amazing to me how much PR there is in our every day lives. I notice more PR because of this class and other PR classes I have taken in the past. I think that learning about writing for PR will be very helpful for me in the future. I am excited to learn about all the different types of writing that PR uses. Some of the assignments in our packet look fun to do.

This first assignment about writing a blog is cool to me. I think this is a fun assignment because I haven't done a blog before. It is fun to try something new. It also helps that I like to write. I have already learned something new in this class. We went over news releases. Professor Olson explained what a news release was and what types of formats are used for news releases. The assignment she assigned us on the news releases seems like it will be kind of fun. We can make up our own information for the news release as long as it doesn't contradict any of the information Professor Olson already gave us. I believe that this will be a fun class. I am glad that I am taking this class.

Writing for PR Bryce Ray

                                                                                    Bryce Ray

The commercial I choose was a volts wagon commercial. The commercial started off with a father and child throwing a baseball around. The father can’t throw the ball but is teaching his son to throw a baseball just like him. So the by the time I could realize that the commercial was about a car, it explained that the car can withstand a certain amount of dings that may come from a ball or something like that. I didn’t like this commercial because it took too long to get into what the commercial was about, and I didn’t like that the ball never hit the car but yet the narrator said the car can withstand a ball hitting it.

Hey Professor this is Brandon Wallace and I just wanted to say thanks for everything that we have learned in class so far. I have been noticing how PR is in everything. We see it everyday from the moment we wake up in the morning to the moment we go to sleep at night.
